As of today, there are 3 different types of optical disc used to store music and movies, commonly known as CD, DVD and Blu-ray. All these Disc store media in a digital format, commonly known as Standard Definition, High definition and Ultra High definition (4K). In short SD is 480 Pixels, while HD is 2,073,600 or 2 Million Pixels and UHD or 4K has 8.2 Million Pixels.
CD is the oldest of these format , it can store 700 mega bytes of data and are usually used for storing music. The CD can be played on a CD player, DVD player and the latest Blu-ray players.
DVDS on the other hand were developed to replace old VHS cassettes, a DVD can store up to 4.7 Giga bytes of data and are normally used for standard definition movies. these discs can be played on both DVD and Blu-ray player, while many computers also offer DVD writers and players.
BLU RAY is the newest and the best format which can store a massive date of 50 Giga bytes which is equivalent to 70 CDs or over 10 DVDs. So we can say, Blu-ray allows us full HD video which is 1980 X 1080 = 2,073,600 or approx 2 Million Pixels. Since, Blu-ray has large amount of storage available allows much sharper and more life like images as well as stunning digital surround sound that really provides movie theater experience. So Blu-ray is not only picture sharpness, richness in color and the wide screen but also about quality of sound.
